Our commitment to sustainability

We are practical strategists driving the sustainability transformation together with our clients to help them realize a sustainable tomorrow today

Sustainability at Strategy&

Climate change rapidly transforms the world as we know it and the devastation caused by record flooding, heat waves, and droughts dominates our daily news. Apart from environmental protection, social issues such as the fight against poverty and the responsible, ethical, and sustainable treatment of employees, stakeholders, and the community also play a vital role. At PwC, we believe it is our social responsibility to meet these global challenges and to promote the responsible use of the world’s finite resources. That is why we are firmly committed to a sustainable economy, an ethical society, and a healthy planet.

Together with PwC, we are therefore taking corporate responsibility and leveraging our strengths and capabilities as a global network to drive the transformation to a sustainable world. Our aspiration is to lead the way and together shape the transformation to a Net Zero economy by 2050. For us, this aspiration is not a trend driven by regulations and guidelines, but a corporate responsibility that exists for decades during which we have built our deep expertise in areas such as climate, sustainability reporting and ESG strategy.

One of the objectives of our global strategy, The New Equation, is to make a difference - for your business and our world. Creating sustained outcomes that drive value and fuel growth, whilst strengthening our environment and societies. Our passionate community of solvers are ready to put in the work with you and combine real world experience with a commitment to change. Our sustainability activities are centered on three main pillars:

  • 1
Supporting our clients in their sustainability transformation from strategy to execution: certainly our biggest lever to effect change
  • 2
Decarbonizing our own business: together with PwC, we are decarbonizing our own core business
  • 3
Collaborating with international, cross-industry organizations: including, for example, the World Economic Forum (WEF), the Global Solutions Initiative (GSI) or the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), in order to promote dialog between the worlds of science, politics, business and civil society and thereby shape the prerequisites and framework conditions for sustainable change

Corporate responsibility at Strategy&

For us at Strategy&, certain sustainability aspects are particularly relevant and we have firmly embedded them in our sustainability vision:

As a strategy consultancy, business travel is an indispensable part of our business model. That is why we have set ourselves specific targets to limit our carbon footprint and thus contribute to PwC’s ambitious Net Zero agenda. For example, we have downsized our company car fleet and switched to e-vehicles. In addition, we have significantly reduced the number of business trips as part of our "New Ways of Working“ initiative.

On a global level, PwC has set one of the professional services space’s most ambitious net-zero targets: compared to our greenhouse gas emissions in 2019, we aim to achieve Net Zero and a 50% reduction in our Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2030 - as an absolute target rather than per full-time employee, validated on the Science Based Targets Initiative.

Our DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) strategy promotes diversity, equity and inclusion. Diversity in our teams is critical to success and an important core value of our company. For example, we have set a goal for our partner and director team to be 30% female by 2030.

Working closely together in teams, a collaborative and empowering spirit is a key prerequisite for delivering exceptional performance for our clients. We strive to create an environment in which all our employees feel comfortable, and develop their skills and personalities. Therefore, we have firmly anchored measurable DEI criteria in all our core processes – from recruiting to onboarding, project staffing, training, and HR development. Here are some of our specific measures:

  • Recruiting: diversity is an important criterion in the selection process of new employees, i.e., we specifically recruit female talent and aim to hire 50% students from non-business study programs
  • Talent development: in appraisal committees, selected and trained “diversity champions” ensure that we consider equal opportunities and no gender-specific prejudices in the performance assessment of all employees
  • Mentoring: consultants are closely supported by two mentors in their personal and professional development
  • Work-life balance: a special family and career development program provides targeted support for our employees to reconcile their day-to-day work as consultants with their role as parents
  • Equal pay: the salaries we pay are transparent within our various career levels and there are no differences between female and male colleagues
  • Training: to enable optimal further development, we offer comprehensive training and coaching opportunities in every career stage, such as an “unconscious bias” training or a mini-MBA for new employees without a business education background
  • Health and well-being: ensuring a healthy work-life balance is very important in our stressful day-to-day consulting work. With the help of an internal “ombudsteam” and regular surveys, we make sure that risks are identified and addressed at an early stage
  • LGBTQIA+: in our LGBTQIA+ and Shine network, we stand up for diversity together with PwC and also demonstrate this fact in joint activities, such as at the Pride Parade in Berlin

Go to diversity, equity and inclusion

Social commitment is an integral part of our culture. In various charitable projects, our employees contribute their skills from their day-to-day consulting work and thus promote the sustainable transformation and just transition of our society. Our commitment is not limited to material support, but largely consists of active corporate social responsibility. For example, we support the ROCK YOUR LIFE! education initiative, which promotes more equal opportunities in our society, encourages individual responsibility and motivation among students, and enables them to start their apprenticeship or career through an extensive corporate network.

In addition to project work, we are committed to knowledge transfer and upskilling as part of our thought leadership reports.
