We recognise that ESG is a key strategy driver for our clients and an opportunity to differentiate in the market. At Strategy&, we work with clients to incorporate sustainability into strategic transformation and value creation plans, and also integrate ESG into deals and diligence processes.
As an intern or graduate coming through our standard Strategy& pathways you can expect ESG, and in particular sustainability, to form part of many of the client engagements you work on. If ESG is of particular interest to you, and you have a background in ESG (e.g., a relevant degree), PwC does offer an ESG-specific internship which spans PwC lines of service and business units, including Strategy& Deals. However, a placement at Strategy& is not guaranteed through this pathway.
Hannah joined the team on the ESG Deals internship following the completion of her Masters in Climate Change, Management and Finance in the summer of 2023. After receiving a return offer, Hannah has been an Associate in the Strategy& ESG Deals team since September 2023.
“I enjoyed the fact that each week of my internship was different - I was able to learn so much in a short space of time about a range of sectors. During my time as an intern I worked on two projects. The first was a vendor assistance, helping a leisure company to prepare an interim sustainability report for bidders. The second was a buy side ESG due diligence on an electric vehicle charging provider. I was also able to demonstrate my interest in circularity and worked on a thought piece for the fashion industry. Working on such a range of projects enabled me to develop a wide network, gain a broad understanding of Strategy& and laid the foundation for me to shape my career around my interests.”
Being part of the Strategy& Deals network means the ESG team not only carries out ESG due diligence but can also bring their ESG expertise to broader strategy and commercial due diligence projects. In addition to ESG due diligence, Hannah showed a particular interest in circularity and net zero transformation and, since joining us as a graduate, has taken the opportunity to work on strategy projects in these areas. Moving between different types of work has given Hannah the opportunity to develop a range of different skills and work across multiple sectors.
Strategy& also hosts a range of networks and events that the team can get involved in. Hannah was an active member of the Strategy& Women's Network during her internship, and continued this as an Associate. Now, Hannah is the head of the events pillar for the Women’s Network and seeks to continue to provide opportunities to empower women within the team, encourage them to build connections across the firm and learn from shared experiences.
