In 2014, I was diagnosed with Auditory Dyslexia and ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder), mere months before my GCSE exams were set to begin. The moment was transformative for me, marking the beginning of my journey of self-discovery and personal growth. I began to actively explore a diverse range of learning strategies and subsequently saw a rapid improvement in my grades as I found what worked.
Nonetheless, upon joining Strategy&, I was apprehensive about how my learning differences would be received in a corporate setting. Right from the outset, I was pleasantly taken aback by the firm’s commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and the overall well-being of its employees. The presence of a supportive ecosystem has made all the difference. I'm excited to share how PwC and Strategy& have helped me thrive.
One of the first things that struck me was the inclusive culture that PwC and Strategy& fosters. They actively promote a sense of belonging, encouraging employees to bring their whole selves to work. This attitude permeates every aspect of the company, making it easier for neurodivergent individuals like me to embrace our unique strengths and overcome any challenges we may face.
For instance, every employee is assigned a dedicated career coach who serves as a trusted confidant. This individual provides a safe and supportive space to discuss any challenges or areas where one may require assistance. Furthermore, at the onset of projects, "ways of working" chats are conducted. To me, this has always emphasised the diverse working styles among team members and the advantages that stem from these differences.
Another useful tool has been DAWN, the Disability Awareness Network, which actively encourages open dialogue and provides channels for employees to share their experiences, challenges and suggestions. They listen attentively and take concrete actions to address concerns and improve the workplace experience for all.
Ultimately, Strategy& has empowered me to embrace my unique abilities and contribute meaningfully to the organisation. I feel celebrated for the different perspective and skills that I can bring to the table. In sharing my personal journey, I hope to inspire others to apply to the company and follow in my footsteps.
