Life as an Associate is always interesting, and everyday is different

Molly graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2021 with a degree in Medicine and a Master’s in Reproductive Medicine. After working as an NHS doctor in South Yorkshire, she transitioned to a career at Strategy& in January 2024.

Her path to Strategy& was through the Women in Consulting (WiC) pathway. Initially unfamiliar with consulting, Molly learned about Strategy& through a relative at PwC and attended an insight day in 2022. The event offered a comprehensive look into the life of a strategy consultant and the interview process. Molly was inspired by the passionate, friendly, and inclusive culture she encountered, which aligned perfectly with her values.

The insight day featured a panel of inspiring women from diverse backgrounds, some with science backgrounds like Molly, as well as sessions on life as an associate, and interview preparation. This experience made the interview process seem less daunting and more accessible. Through the WiC pathway, Molly was connected with other female applicants, allowing her to form a supportive network and lasting friendships even before starting her career at Strategy&.

Molly - Strategy&

Life as an Associate is always interesting, and everyday is different. Although having a non-traditional background for consulting, Molly feels that she has settled in well, due to endless support from colleagues. In her first six months, Molly has had the opportunity to work on three different projects, primarily in the healthcare sector. Her daily tasks include research, data analysis, slide preparation, and brainstorming with team members. Molly has also participated in client meetings and helped to facilitate large workshops, building her confidence with the support of senior colleagues.

“One particular highlight of the last 6 months was working on an NHS project, where all our efforts came together to produce a workshop with over 70 stakeholders where we presented our strategy. Our work was extremely well received and it became clear that our work would really help people even on the ground. I felt really proud to be a part of the team who helped to deliver this.”

“At Strategy&, you’ll engage in meaningful projects while being part of an ultra-supportive community. With endless training opportunities and a dedicated career coach, it does feel like your development is a top priority. The wider PwC network offers so many exciting extracurricular activities, from sports to social events. I recently attended a musical show and participated in summer sports through SCOPE and Fun&, our social committees. The firm’s commitment to a great work-life balance enables me to pursue my interests outside of work; such as having the opportunity to travel, trying new foods with friends, and anything outdoors. Flexible hours and a supportive culture make this possible.”

“A successful applicant is someone who is analytical, hard-working, a good team player, open-minded, curious, and enthusiastic… but the list goes on. There is no single mould for a strategy consultant, and it’s an important part of Strategy&’s values to bring more diversity into the firm. So my advice would be, if you’re interested in becoming part of an exciting, innovative team filled with creative, knowledgeable individuals, don’t hesitate to apply – even if you think your experience is unconventional. Chances are, you’ll find others with similar backgrounds here.”
