After graduating from the American University of Sharjah, Shamma took her first steps into the consulting world through the Strategy& Qadat program.

So, how did that journey begin?
The Qadat program was a great launchpad. It gave me structured training, supportive mentorship, and early exposure to real-world challenges, all of which helped me build a solid foundation in consulting. After the program, I joined full-time as an associate and have since worked on a range of impactful projects across different sectors. It’s been a fast-paced, rewarding experience that’s helped shape how I think, solve problems, and collaborate with others.

What’s kept you excited about the work since then?
The variety of work is a big part of it; no two projects are the same. Whether I’m diving into a new industry or tackling a unique client challenge, there’s always something new to explore. It keeps me on my toes and constantly learning. Plus, being part of a collaborative team makes even the toughest projects enjoyable.

And what drives you personally in this kind of environment?
For me, it’s about purpose and progress. I love the intellectual challenge, but what really motivates me is seeing the real-world impact of our work, helping clients make meaningful change. Being surrounded by passionate people also energizes me. It’s a culture that pushes you to grow but also makes you feel supported.

How would you describe the culture at Strategy&?
It’s a place that values ownership and excellence. You’re trusted to take initiative and think strategically, no matter your level. There’s a strong emphasis on quality and depth, but also on learning, whether through formal development or just the day-to-day work. It’s fast-paced, but in a way that encourages curiosity and personal growth.

As a woman in consulting and in the Middle East, what has that experience been like?
Consulting can come with fast turnarounds and high expectations, but it also provides a lot of opportunities. I’ve grown stronger, more adaptable, and more confident through it. And things are evolving. Firms are increasingly recognizing the need for balance and support, offering flexible arrangements and programs that help women thrive.

And how is Strategy& supporting you through it all? ?
The support has been incredible. I have access to mentors, both Emirati and female leaders, who’ve helped me build confidence and navigate challenges. The firm values diverse perspectives, and that’s made it easier for me to bring my full self to work. I’ve been given strategic responsibilities early on, and the culture encourages openness, which helps me stay grounded in both my goals and my identity.

For young Emirati women coming through the Qadat program, what advice would you share?
Say yes to opportunities, even if they seem intimidating at first. Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to share your voice, because it matters. Build strong relationships with your mentors and peers; that support system is priceless. And most importantly, stay true to who you are. Your background, values, and perspective are your strengths, and they’ll help shape the impact you make.

What brought you to Strategy&, and how has the journey been so far?
I started in management consulting after graduating with a finance degree from the American University of Cairo. I was always drawn to big-picture, purpose-driven work. Strategy& felt like the perfect next step, especially with its strong regional impact.

Since joining, I’ve worked on public sector projects that focus on social impact, something I deeply care about. I’ve also helped shape our office culture in Cairo, strengthening a sense of community within the team.

What’s unique about working at Strategy& in Cairo, and what keeps you engaged along the way?
It’s the mix of close-knit team energy with the backing of a global brand. You get room to grow, make a difference, and stay connected to your community, all from your hometown.

The impact of the work, the talent around me, and the constant push to grow are big drivers for me. A real sense of purpose arises when you see your efforts helping shape national agendas.

What’s it like being a woman in consulting?
It’s both a challenge and a privilege. I’ve had the chance to work on region-shaping initiatives and grow alongside incredibly inspiring women. It’s shown me what’s possible and how important representation really is.

Any advice for women looking to join Strategy& Middle East?
Be confident, be curious, and come with purpose. This is a place where women thrive. Your voice will be heard, and you’ll be supported every step of the way.

Beyond your professional role, you also have a creative passion as a DJ. How do you balance these two worlds?
It’s all about intention. Consulting is my focus, but when the timing’s right, especially on weekends, I carve out space for music. It’s not about doing it all, it’s about doing what matters, mindfully. DJing also taught me how to craft stories and connect with people, skills I bring into every client engagement.

How are your colleagues or team embracing your passion outside of work?
There’s a real respect for individuality at Strategy&. My team celebrates my wins both in the office and behind the decks, and that encouragement helps me show up fully in both worlds.

Any words for those torn between career and personal expression?
You don’t have to choose. With intention and balance, your passions can coexist and actually fuel each other. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.

You wear a lot of hats: mom of two, team leader, and part-time student. How do you balance it all, and how has the firm supported you?
It’s definitely a juggling act! But flexibility at Strategy& has been key. It’s allowed me to grow in my career without sacrificing time with my family. I’m passionate about my work and mentoring my team, and I’ve been able to do that while also pursuing my MSc in Business Psychology, a subject that’s incredibly relevant to my work. I actually find myself applying what I learn in real time, which has been both fun and rewarding.

What does inclusive leadership mean to you, and what does that look like at Strategy&?
To me, inclusive leadership is all about creating a space where people feel heard, respected and supported, both professionally and personally. It’s about understanding that everyone is different, and leading with empathy and flexibility is important.
It’s not just about policies. It’s about the small, everyday actions that help people feel seen and empowered to do their best work. I see this theory put into action at Strategy& every day.

What has made the biggest difference for you as a working mom at Strategy&?
One thing I didn’t fully realize before joining was just how supportive the environment is, especially for women and working moms. The firm genuinely prioritizes well-being and flexibility, and that makes a huge difference. I’m passionate about spreading the word because Strategy& walks the talk when it comes to supporting its people.

Q: What sparked your interest in consulting, and why Strategy&?

A: I completed my Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Saint Joseph University in Beirut and joined Strategy& directly after graduation. I was drawn to consulting for the fast-paced learning environment, the exposure to diverse industries and clients, and the opportunity to work on projects that truly make an impact. I was especially interested in Strategy& because of its strong reputation in the region, the scale of its transformation work, and the close-knit culture that people often describe as a family. It felt like the right place to grow both personally and professionally.

Q: After four years at Strategy& working on projects in the technology, media, telecom, and energy sectors, what inspired you to pursue an MBA program?

A: Pursuing an MBA was a crucial step for me to complement my engineering background with business skills that would strengthen my consulting toolkit at Strategy&. I saw it as a chance to take a step back, explore the world, meet people from different cultures, challenge myself in new ways, and come back sharper, ready to deliver even more impact across industries and clients. INSEAD stood out to me because of its international outlook, its alumni network, and its intense, fast-paced program. Plus, it gave me the opportunity to study across multiple campuses.

Q: And you’ve made it! Congratulations on your recent graduation. How was the experience? Can you share some highlights?

A: The experience has been everything I hoped for and more. Academically, it gave me the business acumen I was looking for, but beyond that, it really opened my eyes to new perspectives and ways of thinking. One standout moment was Cultural Week, where students from all over the world shared their traditions, food, dances, and stories. It allowed me to genuinely connect with people from completely different backgrounds. It wasn’t just about showcasing our own cultures; it was about discovering and appreciating others’. Beyond campus life, one of the best parts has been the opportunity to travel and form deep connections with people from all over the world, friendships I know will last a lifetime.

Q: We would love to hear about your contributions to your school. Did you join any club you’re particularly proud of?

A: I joined the Consulting Club and the Women in Business Club. These clubs gave me the opportunity to connect with peers who shared similar goals and values. Through the Women in Business Club, I had the chance to engage in meaningful conversations about leadership and career challenges, especially in male-dominated industries. It helped me reflect on my own journey and how I can support others along the way.

Q: What was it like returning to Strategy& after your MBA? How did it feel to step back in?

A: My return has been very smooth. I was lucky to rejoin a supportive team that took the time to guide me through the transition and help me get back up to speed at the right pace. I appreciated the balance of being given responsibility while also having the space to re-adapt after time away. It genuinely felt like coming back home, with familiar faces and a familiar culture, but with a fresh perspective and new skills to bring to the table.

Q: How has your MBA experience influenced the way you approach your work at Strategy& today?

A: My MBA sharpened my business fundamentals and made me more structured, and impact driven in problem-solving. It strengthened my ability to align with strategic goals, manage ambiguity, and communicate effectively. Most importantly, it helped me grow into a more independent, confident professional who takes ownership and drives progress.

Q: What are you most excited about as you step into this new chapter at Strategy& post-MBA?

A: I’m excited to apply fresh insights to high-impact projects and take on greater ownership. The MBA gave me space to reflect, and I’m now ready to lead workstreams, deepen client relationships, and contribute more meaningfully, both in engagements and in shaping the firm’s regional impact.

1. What did you do before joining Strategy& Middle East?

I had recently completed my master’s degree in management from London Business School. Before that, I had been working in Pakistan as a digital lead and brand management trainee at a leading FMCG company. 

2. What drew you to the firm?

The people came across as approachable and humble, and the firm’s reputation convinced me that working here would help me achieve my career aspirations.

3. After three years at the firm, what led you to pursue an MBA?

I wanted to broaden my international exposure and participate in mature class discussions with diverse professionals, while still staying focused on my career. With that in mind, I chose to complete my MBA at INSEAD because of its 10-month intensive program, which has a strong global reputation, an international student body, and a robust alumni network in the Middle East.

4. How was your MBA experience? Can you share some highlights?

It was transformative, providing a whirlwind of cultural experiences and intense learning. I also met incredible people and forged lifelong friendships. Each destination offered unique perspectives, contributing to a deeply enriching and global educational adventure. Also, attending INSEAD with my wife made the journey even more special. We embraced the opportunity to travel and immerse ourselves in more than 15 countries, even studying on three different vibrant campuses—in France, Singapore, and as part of an exchange program at Kellogg School of Management in the United States.

5. What activities did you take part in while completing your MBA?

I was involved in the consulting club at INSEAD, where I helped many students prepare for consulting roles. I enjoyed the opportunity to offer some degree of mentorship early in my own career journey and, in doing so, I deepened my own understanding of the consulting industry.

6. How would you describe your transition back to Strategy&?

It has been exhilarating to dive back into the field. The excitement of solving complex cases, alongside incredibly smart and motivated colleagues, is just unmatched. Each project feels like a new adventure, sparking a rush of adrenaline and intellectual challenge. The dynamic and collaborative environment fuels my passion for consulting and it drives me to push the boundaries of what I know I can achieve together with a team. I'm genuinely thrilled to continue contributing to our firm’s successes, while experiencing the camaraderie and brilliance that Strategy& is known for.

Q: What stands out from your time at Strategy& so far?

A: I joined the firm and moved to the Middle East right after completing my MBA from INSEAD, stepping into a region that was entirely new to me. From the moment I arrived, it has been an incredible learning journey. I have had the privilege of working across a diverse array of industries, including energy, the public sector, and now technology, media, and telecommunications, each offering unique challenges and opportunities.

Q: How would you describe the firm’s culture?

A: Supportive. My experience has been exactly what I hoped it would be when I joined the firm, if not better. Every step of the way, I have felt incredibly supported by everyone around me, including principals, partners, and my entire team. I’ve always felt a strong sense of camaraderie.

Q: Why did you recently transfer from Dubai to the New York office?

A: I wanted to move to New York primarily for family reasons. But in addition to the personal aspect, I’m excited to be working in New York now because the city is a vibrant hub for innovation and technological advancement. I am eager to immerse myself in its dynamic tech ecosystem.

Q: How did your team support your move?

A: When I decided to move to New York, the level of support I received was truly heartening. The first reaction from everyone was overwhelmingly positive. My colleagues understood my need to relocate and they were more than willing to assist in any way possible. They went above and beyond by recommending me to numerous partners in New York, facilitating introductions, and sending out recommendations on my behalf. The support I received has been instrumental in easing my transition, and it has also reinforced my belief in the strength of the community within Strategy&.

Q: What are you taking away from your experience at Strategy& Middle East?

A: During the three years I spent in the Middle East, I grew professionally and built strong, lasting relationships. I know there's always the option to return to the region, and I’m grateful for that global mobility as well as for the valuable, enriching opportunity I have now to explore a new place.

Q: What did you do before Strategy& Middle East? And why did you join?

A: I studied business at the Lebanese American University before joining Strategy&. My first interaction with the firm was through a case competition in 2019 where I had the opportunity to meet and learn from Strategy& consultants. The friendly, supportive environment I got exposed to during the case competition, together with a clear commitment to people and their merit made Strategy& the right choice for me. I was very glad to learn that the culture I saw in that brief event is in reality the same one I continue to work in today.

Q: Why did you choose to complete your MBA at INSEAD?

A: I always had great experiences working with INSEADers at Strategy&. Working with alumni gave me a taste of the school’s culture, and I felt it would be a fit for me. I was also very interested in the opportunity to live in and discover both Europe and South-East Asia.

Q: What were some highlights from your MBA experience?

A: In just one year, I made friends from around the world, visited more than 45 cities, explored new hobbies, stretched my comfort zone, and learned from professors and peers. I’ve developed in ways I didn’t even imagine I would, and I’ll always acknowledge this privilege.

Q: What contributions did you make to INSEAD?

A: As a member of INSEAD’s consulting club, I supported my peers who wanted to join the industry. In fact, I helped the club organize a case competition with Strategy& Middle East, and the winning team members received interviews and cash prizes.

Q: What has your return to Strategy& been like?

A: Returning to the fast-paced consulting world after almost a year in Fontainebleau is a big change to say the least. My first project is in a field entirely new to me, so it’s been a very interesting learning opportunity. I’m also very glad to be back with old friends and colleagues I appreciate. That said, I will always remember my MBA days.

Q: What did you do before Strategy& Middle East? And why did you decide to join?
A: I was a student at the Lebanese American University, where I completed my undergraduate degree in civil engineering. During my time there, I became fascinated with the transportation industry and I realized that working at a tier-1 management consulting firm would enable me to engage strategically in this dynamic sector. Strategy&’s notable impact, both regionally and globally, motivated me to apply.

Q: Why did you choose to complete your MBA at INSEAD?
A: My decision to pursue my MBA at INSEAD was driven by its global prestige, diverse student body, and dual campuses in France and Singapore. The international exposure offered a unique learning environment that resonated with my career aspirations and my personal interests, making INSEAD the right choice for a comprehensive and enriching business education.

Q: What were some highlights of your MBA experience?
A: My MBA journey was eye-opening and transformative, on both personal and professional fronts. It pushed me to reevaluate my priorities, beliefs, and biases. The program exposed me to industries and opportunities that are not as mature in the Middle East, hence broadening my perspective significantly. In addition, the ability to directly interact, during select INSEAD events, with some of the alumni who are executives at top corporations provided me with insights that I did not have access to previously. These experiences have been instrumental in enriching my understanding of the global business landscape.

Q: What’s one of the most memorable experiences you had at INSEAD?
A: Early in the program, I found myself attending a colleague's wedding, an experience I hadn't anticipated so soon. To my astonishment, I was asked to translate the civil officer's ceremony speech, as it was happening, marking my first attendance at a civil marriage and an unforgettable moment. It’s amazing how fast strong bonds are created at INSEAD and those are something I’ll always treasure.

Q: How has your return to Strategy& been like?
A: Returning to Strategy& has been a whirlwind of emotions. The past year brought profound professional and personal growth, equipping me with valuable insights. Now, I'm eager to apply these learnings to amplify my contributions to the firm. In addition, the warm welcome from colleagues at all levels has been genuinely heartening, reigniting my passion and commitment to deliver even greater value in this next chapter with Strategy&.

Q: How has your experience been so far with the Activation Hub?
A: In the Activation Hub, I discovered a harmonious blend of consulting and a work-life balance that aligns perfectly with my lifestyle. This experience allowed me to explore various subjects, enhance my consulting abilities, collaborate with an exceptional team, and engage closely with senior colleagues at the firm.

Q: What excites you most about the work that you do?
A: Many things excite me about our work, from engaging with the latest trends, expressing creativity, acquiring new knowledge daily, and thriving in a dynamic work environment, to contributing to the success of the company by securing projects!

Q: We’ve heard you have an exciting hobby: competitive running! What got you into it?
A: Sports have been a constant in my life. From swimming to cycling, skiing, and CrossFit, I've embraced them all. But it was a twist of fate that led me to competitive running. When my twin sister got injured just before a crucial 10K women's race, I stepped in. I ran on her behalf, and to my own surprise, won third place. This unexpected win lit a fire within me, and I joined a running club afterwards.

Q: What advice would you give to people looking to start their fitness journey?
A: To all beginners out there, whether you're new to running or just starting your fitness journey, here's my advice: Discover your pace, alone or in a group. Embrace the journey, don't stress the details, and above all, give yourself time.

Q: What brought you to Strategy&, and what have you been up to so far?

A: Unlike many of my peers, I didn’t plan for a career in consulting. My passion was for product design. People close to me warned me that it could be a difficult path after university, but that only fueled my ambition to support the diversification of Oman’s economy to create more professional pathways. I realized that I needed to develop my business acumen and understanding of our regional industries/economies to be impactful. I wanted to learn fast, which led me to consulting.

During the interview process with Strategy&, I met many of the firm's leaders and I could quickly tell that the culture is inclusive and the opportunities I would be exposed to are truly diverse. This sealed the deal for me. Since joining, I've worked on projects in tourism, telecom, aerospace and defense, real estate, and entertainment and culture. The path I'm on now is catalyzing my personal growth and preparing me to tackle immense challenges.
