Interview with Mario
Q: After working at Strategy& Middle East for about eight years, you moved onto a role in tech before recently returning to the firm as a manager in Dubai. How would you describe your experience?

A: My return to the firm has been very smooth. Everyone has been extremely warm and welcoming to me, particularly the people I already knew from working here previously. I’ve also attended many social events this year, which gave me the chance to meet many new faces that have joined in the past few years. I’ve seen firsthand that our unique communal and family culture has remained intact! The people I've been working with have been very supportive. They’ve brought me up to speed with the latest business developments and content—and they’ve really just been there for me whenever I needed help, which enabled me to quickly jump in and start supporting our clients.

Q: What brought you back to Strategy&?

A: The decision to return to Strategy& was easy. I’ve always been fond of our entrepreneurial and familial culture here, where everyone is given the chance to thrive in their own niche while working with supportive, like-minded, and fun peers that we quickly come to call friends! I also enjoy the impactful work that we do while advising major corporations and governments on their strategic agendas. The TMT practice was extremely welcoming and despite it being a large practice, they made it easy to integrate due to the supportive and friendly nature of its people. I'm grateful for that.

Q: What do you most enjoy about being a management consultant in the telecommunications, media, and technology (TMT) practice?

A: As consultants, we get exposure to diverse content and people. We’re always learning, and we get to build our hard and soft skills simultaneously, which makes us well-rounded professionals and people. I really enjoy the strategic nature of the problems we work on, their analytical content, and the large impact they have on organizations and people in the region. There’s a very entrepreneurial and familial culture here. Everyone is given the chance to thrive in their own niche while working with supportive, like-minded, and fun peers that we quickly call friends!

Q: Over the years, what value did you get out of being part of the Strategy& Middle East alumni community?

A: Attending alumni events in Dubai was a great opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and friends. I enjoyed learning what other people have been up to, both on the career and personal fronts. It also reminded me of how strong our alumni network is in the Middle East, with many people I worked with at Strategy& now holding leadership positions at big companies or starting successful companies themselves.

Q: What are some of your other interests away from work?

A: I’m a big football fan and I enjoy reading all types of books. I also travel quite a bit and enjoy discovering new places with friends. In addition, I’ve recently taken up meditation and I'm trying to stick to a yoga routine but so far, I've failed miserably!

Q: Any words of advice for young colleagues who are joining Strategy& today?

A: Consulting may not be the easiest job at the beginning, but it brings you major rewards in terms of personal growth, career acceleration, impact, and life-long connections with like-minded people. For me, my consulting career continues to be very rewarding!
